Being Human
Was reading the news article on the Kallang murder case. It set me wondering what kind of a person would commit such a brutal and cold-blooded act. What was going through the person's mind as he carried out the act? We come in contact with all kind of people everyday but out of all these people who cross our path, how many of them are really human? How sure are you that the people you meet are not actually wolves in human clothes? Just like the murder suspect (he hasn't been convicted yet) to his family he has always been a caring husband and a responsible father; to the factory he works for he is a diligent and efficient supervisor. Could this almost 'perfect' human have committed such a vicious act of chopping a young lady into 7 pieces? What could have caused him to turn into such a bloodthirsty monster? Has he suddenly become insane? Would a lunatic be capable of cutting up a body so neatly and then wrapping them with plastic bags to be disposed of? Moreover, he appeared calm when he was arrested and even told the police how he got rid of the body parts. What then could have happened to cause such a dramatic change in personality? I guess we will only know the answer when the trial begins and before the truth is out it would remain a mystery. Then in the meantime are we to live in fear, not knowing when somebody close to us will turn berserk and do something unexplainable? Could such drastic change in temperament really occur to those around us? Well, it might but that doesn't mean we have to treat everyone with suspicion and mistrust as such heinous incidents are far and apart. Majority of the people around us are most of the time quite humane and civilise as long as we treat them in the same manner, so have you been treating those around you humanely? Have you been a human?
